The crops grown on the borders of the town other than rice which is the chief one are: maize, tobacco, cabbages, cochcomb, red peppers, etc. At present there are in the market pomegranites, peaches of fine quality, russet pears, & small green apples. The [[?]] over the railway has reminded me much of Panama & Guatemala in its lower part from Hanoi to [[?FooKay]]. The upper part is strikingly like the highlands of Peru. Open grass country with deep moraines on the sides of which are vertical forms, and terraces.
