the drab or dusky fan-tail & a small yellow & green one seen everywhere along the road-side.  I also shot a malachite blue species.  We made camp at dark far down the mountain on the edge of the Meng-ting plain.  20 li beyond was the village of Bah-tzu-tzai.  The camp was situated on the edge of a fine clear stream margined by a growth of large bamboo fig trees & others of tropical character.  One of the figs was a tall white barked tree bearing reddish figs in branches some of which were lying ripe on the ground. [[strikethrough]] The [[/strikethrough]] Another species had [[strikethrough]] large [[/strikethrough]] rough blackish bark spreading limbs, immense ellipitical leaves & figs [[strikethrough]] at least [[/strikethrough]] of large size, 3 inches across growing from the main trunk on short spurs.
[[circled]] 16 [[circled]]  The night was clear & calm without frost but pleasantly cool.  No mammals except a house rat were caught here.
