[[circled]] 19 [[/circled]] At daylight when we arise a light rain was falling but only at intervals thereafter so we got packed & started on our way at 10 A.M in cloudy sultry weather.  A guide had been obtained who took us down the valley to a place on the Burma border at the village of Man-khah.  The way led over level rice fields for about 6 miles & then the valley closed in & the river ran thru a deep jungle clad ravine.  The lower part of the valley was choked by tall cane grass much of it strong hard like pampas grass.  The steep sides of the ravine were clothed by giant bamboos bananas, conaros, elephant eared arums of great size acacias, figs, etc.  Near some of the villages immense fig
