Weather clear unpacked 24 specimens.
[[circled left]] 25 [[/circled left]] Went out early at daybreak with Albertsen to hunt wild red dogs on the slopes of the large hill just south of the Custom House & only 2 miles out of town. We saw no game but Albertsen & Palmer have both seen a pair here several different times & gotten within 100 yds but never shot gun range.
[[circled]] 26 [[/circled]] Again I went out for wild dogs, this time with Palmer to the same place but we saw nothing. The morning was rainy & misty. At 3 P.M. As I was looking out of Grierson verandah I saw a red fox running across the field which approached & ran between Fletchers [[strikethrough]] house [[/strikethrough]] compound & Grierson & hid in some bamboo near the city wall. A black dog had flushed the fox & was following it slowly & with difficulty & soon gave up the chase. This is the first fox I have seen in China
