Albertson said that the only larger pair he had seen was 105 lbs the pair. The value they set was only $2.50 gold a lb. for the ivory.
[[circled left]] 31 [[/circled left]] Day rainy in spots at noon a short heavy thunder shower passed over the town.
[[boxed left]] June 1 [[/boxed left]] We departed from Tengyueh at 8 A.M. in a light misty rain. The road led down the Taiping river thru a narrow valley filled by rice terraces. Many Shan women were seen here with the Chinese transplanting seedling rice plants. This is the height of the rice planting season & all the fields are flooded. Two hours out we met the lava fields thru which the road runs for a few miles. These fields are ^[[very]] rough, piles of lava rocks with craters between and there is no attempt at cultivation
