All day was solid forest on both sides of the deep ravine thru which the Taiping River flows. Near the road a few acres of clearing & an occasional hut was [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] met. Insect pest such as biting flies were quite absent & the climate was not oppressively hot.
[[circled left]] 6 [[/circled left]] The night was cool & a rain shower of considerable duration wet the roads & flooded the streams. The Taiping was filled by a muddy gray brown flood from bank to bank. Many [[strikethrough]] beauti [[/strikethrough]] pretty waterfalls were seen yesterday [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] near the road & today I saw a very tall ^[[falling like a ribbon of silver]] [[strikethrough]] one [[/strikethrough]] across the valley. The birds seen in the forest are quite new to us. This morning I saw the long white tailed paradise flycatcher & a rocket tailed black bird (drongo or flycatcher)
