I have been struck by the frankness of the English on board the steamer in [[bolding?]] stating to one another there [[sic]] hatred of the cold haughty type of English people so often found in India. Persons who show no sympathy for anyone are not rare here & are rewarded by universal dislike. There is an old chap on board an Oxford man who is a judge in Madras Province.
