The two yg men in my compartment were also bound for Darjeeling. At 10 P.M. we changed cars to a meter guage line & to sleeping cars. It was raining at the time. I drew another companion, an Irish tea-planter who was very hospitable & furnished whiskeys & sodas & information.

At 5 AM daylight resurrected us & we had a cup of tea at a station & then shaved & dressed. Another change of cars to the diminutive Darjeeling railway of 2 foot guage was made at 6 A.M. at Siliguri Station. Here we took chota hazree (little breakfast) consisting of eggs, tea & fruit. Our train consisted of small toy cars & very small tho powerful locomotive which puffed incestanly. We entered the forest soon after
