(17)  Another foggy morning with rain obscured the landscape & the snow range.  I decided to leave & took the train for Calcutta at 2 P.M.  It was raining softly at the time.  In my carriage was a Captain Carter who I had met in the hotel [[?Chusally]].  He seemed to have quite a knowledge of Botany but was on his way to his regiment at Allerhabad after 3 weeks at Darjeeling.
