[[circled]] 14 [[/circled]]  Weather is still fine & the sea smooth but we are now out of sight of land.  We have as a passenger to Hong Kong one Mr. Powell an ex-manager of Chinese territory who speaks Cantonese but not Mandarin.  He has also been a officer on coast steamers & has visited Hainan Island often.  On one occasion he made a journey into the interior from Hoikoy with the British consul, a Japanese & an American missionary.
