of the water deer of the Yangstze.  There was also a mounted specimen of that [[strikethrough]]re[[/strikethrough]] extinct deer Pere Davids, unfortunately a [[symbol: female]].  The mounted birds were very complete, & well named.  I saw no plants or fishes.
Later in the P.M. I called on Mr. Jernigan a former Am. Consul & a local sportsman who is a well known [[strikethrough]] shoots [[/strikethrough]] birds shooter.
Local Big Game sportsmen seem to be quite lacking here.  The Shanghai Club was visited later & here I dined with Hartmann & a Dane, Mr. Forman an agent for several European companies.
