Dear F-G

SAVONNERIE RUG: I am sorry to have to disappoint you, but I saw, yesterday, the rug that Lady Mendl had called to your attention, and so much of it is modern that it is absolutely of no interest. It is now in the hands of a dealer in New York, and since Mrs. Ogden Armour owned it the rug was sold a couple of times. Outside of the center the rest has been completely restored. Furthermore, this is strictly between you and me, there is evidently great variation in the understanding of the word Savonnerie, which, after all, was but a technique, and this rug was never what we call a Louis XIV black background Savonnerie. It was probably a a sort of Aubusson Savonnerie, so that even were it in perfect condition it would not be what you are looking for.

PRINCESS GOURIELLI: I have had yet no answer from her.
