4th Feb. 1934. Drove to Leixlip station, left car & walked back along canal for 1 1/2 miles to next bridge. Collected seed heads of [[underlined]] Centaurea nigra [[/underlined]] & brought home & put in jar. Saw [[female symbol]] hazel flowers out on bush in hedge, but Coltsfoot showing no sign of flowers at aqueduct over [[Royal?]] Water. 
[[underlined]] Pimpla brevicornis [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] em. 3.5.34, [[female symbol]] em. 7.5.34. [[underlined]] Bracon [[/underlined]] sp.  1 [[male symbol]], 1 [[female symbol]], em. 25.5., 1 [[female symbol]] 26.5, & 1 [[male symbol]] found in motor house (believed escaped from jar as I opened it!) on 30.5.1934. Chalcid em. 28.5, another on 31.5.1934 & many others subsequently!
[On 5th Feb. C.W. Allen called & brought [[female symbol]] [[underlined]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] which was caught in garden of  Kenilworth Road by  Mr. Merrilees & his kitten on the previous Sat. (3rd Feb.). The kitten was observed playing with it in the grass & the specimen secured by Mr. M. & given to C.W.A. The 3rd was a dull day with some misty rain, but previous days had been mild & some sunny, still it seems probable that the bee had been disturbed & driven out of her winter quarters by accident rather than a normal emergence.]

10th Feb. 1934. M.D.S. saw a [[female symbol]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] flying at front window & then across Clareville Rd., between 3.0 & 3.30 P.M. Fine, some sunny intervals, W. wind. George got Coltsfoot in flower by the Dodder below Orwell Bridge.

11th Feb. 1934. A foggy morning, with misty rain. Did not go out all day!
13th Feb. 1934. [[underlined]] Sax. oppositifolia [[/underlined]] (both [[Benesanagh?]] & Snowdon plants (more so) with open flowers in back garden. Those in front garden not out.
14th Feb. 1934. Yellow; [[underlined]] Sax. apiculata [[/underlined]], with several flowers open [[insertion]] ^ in front garden [[/insertion]]. Morning fine but dull; afternoon all clear & sunny, colder, with N. breeze.
Drove at 2 pm. to Slade of Saggart, Co. DU. where tried sweeping rushes, but this produced no result beyond spiders & a few Diptera.
[[side note]] 14.2.34. Slade of Saggart [[underlined]] Frog spawn [[/underlined]] atleast a week old seen in pool in "marsh". [[/side note]]
[End of week colder, but nearly all sunny on Sat; 17th after a clear hard frost on Friday night.]
18th Feb. 1934. A fine sunny day, very hot in shelter. Glen (at quarry) Ballyhenry, Co. WI.
Almost all beaten out of spruce, one or two spp. laural!
[[underlined]] Pimpla maculator [[/underlined]] 4 or 5 [[2 female symbols]], not kept. [[underlined]] P. examinator [[/underlined]] 3 [[2 female symbols]], small.
[[underlined]] P. elegans [[/underlined]] 3 [[2 female symbols]], others not kept. [[underlined]] P. oculatoria [[/underlined]] 2 [[2 female symbols]].
[[underlined]] Stenomacrus ventralis [[/underlined]] ? 1 small testaceous [[female symbol]], [[insertion]] ^ 4 [[/insertion]] larger & darker [[2 female symbols]], ? same sp.
Chalcids very common; none kept. Curious Dipterous with legs like a flea.
[[underlined]] Cynipids [[/underlined]] 1 (largest) in car: several Salius
