1st April 1934. (Easter Sunday). A clear cold day after a frosty night, but wind E - NE & very strong (almost a gale between noon & 3 pm.). Only small scudding clouds occasionally crossing the sun.
Drove to Ballyteige Wood, at foot of Glenmalure, Co. WI. & in afternoon called at The Deputy's Pass for an hour.

[[underlined]] Cryptopimpla anomala [[/underlined]] 4 [[2 male symbols]] & 1 [[female symbol]] taken, very fresh along [[insertion]] ^ W. [[/insertion]] margin of area planted with conifers
Cynipid

George & Daisy saw [[underlined]] Peacock Butterfly [[/underlined]]! [[/side note]]

Beetles taken amongst horse droppings in wood.

6th April 1934. Still very cold, NE. N. wind; but all sunny in afternoon & very sheltered at Enniskerry, Co. WI.
Swept marsh between roads & beat willows (not yet in leaf!) & elder (in leap). [[underlined]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] seen gathering pollen on willows & other [[underlined]] Bombi [[/underlined]] heard.
One Cynipid beaten off Elder bush & also one bug.
Then went up glen & swept swampy place on old track. Here too one [[underlined]] Galesus [[/underlined]] & several Cynipids on rushes, &c.
George reported [[underlined]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] terrestris [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]].
Two Small Tortoiseshell butterflies in marsh, but no [[underlined]] Andrenas [[/underlined]] seen on bank or at willows & no chiff-chaffs heard in glen.

8th April 1934. A bitter cold day, except in shelter & when sun was out, with sleet & hail showers at frequent intervals & some sun bursts in between: wind NE in Dublin, but N.W. over plain. Drove to Edenderry, via Innfield, to see "The Derries" south of that place, recommended by Brunker.
Several old sandpits in the esker, but very tramped by cattle & hardly worth the long journey. Drove on to canal S. of Monasterevan, Q Co., via Rathangan, & home after lunch there.
