20. Separates [[underlined]] variegatus [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] affinis [[/underlined]], [[insertion]] (21) [[/insertion]] off from some other species [[insertion]] (22) [[/insertion]] not necessary to consider here. [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]]

21. Head broader & thinner; face broader its punctures stronger & more sharply defined, the space between the ocelli & the eyes & the vertex being as a rule more densely punctured (i.e. than in [[underlined]] affinis [[/underlined]] he does not mean more densely than the rest of face. RCLP.!!)
Propodeum with coarser wrinkles, the sharp margin of the "Stutz" more strongly [[strikethrough]] raised [[/strikethrough]] raised. 2nd tergite at base [[strikethrough]] constructed [[/strikethrough]] depressed (not visible if the seg. is contracted) & finely rugulose & for about 1/3 of the segment [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] finely but clearly punctured, 3rd tergite with the same sculpture over about half; on 2nd & 3rd also often on 1st the apical portion is bounded basally by a row of feeble punctures.
Underside of [[insertion]] ^ flagellum of [[/insertion]] antennae rufotestaceous; inner side of front tibiae apex of tibiae & the apical tarsal points, more rarely the metatarsi reddish yellow. Seg. 1-3 strongly red, exceptionally in vy small examples reddish testaceous, with the disc more or less blackish - marked. 5 or 6 alar hooks; 5-7 mm. [[underlined]] crassus [[/underlined]] Thoms. ([[underlined]] variegatus von Hag. [[/underlined]]

Head narrower & so in comparison thicker; face narrower, rounder, with vy fine & less definite puncturation, which on the upper part (i.e. on the vertex laterally) is moderately remote. Vertex strongly shining.
Propodeum with much feebler sculpture, also the [[strikethrough]] circumference [[/strikethrough]] margin of the 'Stutz' is only feebly defined. Tergite 2 at the base not depressed & here only to a very limited extent rugulose & very finely & indistinctly punctured, also on the 3rd tergite this sculpture is no stronger, but is more extended. Seg. 2 & 3 without rows of punctures.
