13th July 1934. After heavy downpour at night many showers in forenoon, getting lighter & the afternoon fairly fine, some sun. Spent morning clearing off arrears, but in afternoon, 4.30 till 7.0 PM. walked across sands to Abbey Island, Darrynane, where [[underlined]] Simethis bicolor [[/underlined]] plentiful & just going out of flower. Swept some marshy bits, but too stormy (W-NW) for much to be out.
[[underlined]] Bombus agrorum [[/underliend]] a few [[2 female symbols]] & [[2 virgin female symbols]] seen.
[[underlined]] Agenia variegata [[/underlined]] a fine [[female symbol]] swept in marsh just N.W. of ruined church : the most extraordinary place to take this species & the last I would have expected to turn up in such a place on such a day. She was no doubt spider - hunting!

14th July 1934. A fine day, but many cloudy spells & high NW wind rather chilly.
12.0 noon till 1.30 PM. Lord Adare's woods behind hotel, Darrynane, but then largely spoiled by imported plants, e.g.[[underlined]] Rhodendron [[/underlined]], having run wild. Labelled [[boxed]] "Darrynane wds" [[/boxed]]
