I have not seen a [[male symbol]] of [[underlined]] pallipes [[/underlined]], as it is normally parthenogenetic, & I only once heard of a [[male symbol]] - one bred by Peacock after numerous generations I think, when he was working on the species. I am returning your box herewith, as though I can't get to the P.O. myself, there being no one except myself & wife at home, I have an opportunity of sending it there by another person. Richard is photo-ing ships at Portsmouth to-day & our servant is off duty this afternoon.
I sent back Miss Cheesman's New Hebrides [[underlined]] Halicti [[/underlined]] yesterday. I could only make them into 6 species & did not describe them, but merely sent her on some of my notes for her to do so. They are quite nice things, all of the same group as the Fiji & Samoan forms, but distinct as species. I doubt whether any of them have been previously described. They might be identical with spp. from New Caledonia, if any are described thence, but I cannot look into this from here. In haste & with kind regards
