16th Aug. 1936  A very warm & fine day, though windy (S) at times : much very hot sun: insects [[underlined]] very [[/underlined]] active!
District between Emo Park & Portarlington, all in Co. QC.
12 noon till 4.30 PM.
1 = Sand pit on [[big?]] road NE. of Emo Park. [[insertion]] Specimens taken at 1, 2 & 3 labelled [[boxed]] N. Emo Park [[/boxed]]; but those taken at 4 kept separate & labelled [[boxed]] Portarlington Co. QC. AWS. 16.8.36 (4). [[/boxed]] [[/insertion]]
2 = Edge of bog, &c just N & W of last.
3 = Sand pit near N. gate of Woodbrook House.
4 = Canal bank from Woodbrook back to Portarlington Ry. Station.
[[underlined]] Bombus lucorum [[/underlined]] only one or two seen, [[male symbol]] or [[virgin female symbol]].
[[underlined]] B. agrorum [[/underlined]], perhaps a couple of dozen seen all day.
[[underlined]] B. muscorum [[/underlined]] about a dozen [[2 virgin female symbols]] seen & a couple of [[2 male symbols]].
[[underlined]] B. deshamellus [[/underlined]] several [[2 virgin female symbols]] seen.
[[underlined]] B. sylvarum [[/underlined]] several very worn [[2 virgin female symbols]] seen at 2.
[[underlined]] B. lapidarius [[/underlined]] 1 [[virgin female symbol]] certainly seen at 1.
[[underlined]] Psithyrus distinctus [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] seen at 2.

[[underlined]] Andrena marginata [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]] frequent at [[scabious?]] at 2, [[2 male symbols]] rarely seen at 1, 2 & 3.
[[underlined]] A. fuscipes [[/underlined]] [[2 male symbols]] very abundant at [[underlined]] Calluna [[/underlined]] at 2, some fresh, others quite silvery-white with age: a few [[2 female symbols]] ?

[[underlined]] Halictus rubicundus, calceatus, albipes, [[/underlined]] freygessneri, [[underlined]] tumulorum [[/underlined]] certainly seen, [[2 female symbols]] & [[2 male symbols]].

[[underlined]] Crabro cavifrons, chrysostomus, vagus, varius, & clavipes [[/underlined]] seen at 2, 3 & 4.
[[underlined]] C. podagricus [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]] common at 1 & often by sweeping amongst carrot.

[[underlined]] Mellinus arvensis [[/underlined]], a few at 3 & 4.
[[underlined]] Chrysis ignita [[/underlined]] 1 seen on [[underlined]] Angelica [[/underlined]] at 2.
[[underlined]] Bethylus cephalotes [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] swept at 1 [[or?]] 2 & another [[female symbol]] at 4.

[[underlined]] Athalia [[/underlined]] spp. seen.
[[underlined]] Tenthredo [[arcuata?]] [[/underlined]] very common at 1, 3 & 4
[[underlined]] Tenthredella moniliata [[/underlined]] 2 fine [[2 female symbols]] at 4 (one on [[underlined]] Angelica [[/underlined]] !)
Small sp [[insertion]] = very small [[female symbol]] of [[underlined]] Scolioneura betuleti [[/underlined]] ? [[/insertion]] : taken flying over [[underlined]] Calluna [[/underlined]] at 2.
