30th June 1937. A windy day with showers after a wet night: very soft, but too wet to sweep.

Drove with Art O'Murnaghan & Fred Scatly to Baltinglass Hill, Co. WI., ascended hill & inspected the earthwork in summit, [[strikethrough]] the higher of which is evidently in process of being turned to good account by the local followers of the Church of Rome, the whole site having been completely turned to [[?fry-tursing]] & the stones from the cairn used to build a high rampart around the site inside which what look like "saints hide", &c., are being [[underlined]] very badly [[/underlined]] manufactured.
[[marginalia]] No! Only the Beardsley Works Methods of putting things in order! A.W.S. [[/marginalia]]
Saw two plants of [[underlined]] Lycopodium clavatum [[/underlined]] by rushy swampy spot just inside the outer rampart at N. side of the hill, alt., ca., 1,200 feet.

Collected some insects in shelter of hedge along the old road on W. side of hill, 1 1/4 miles N. of Battinglass & below former site of "Baltinglass Covert" of 1" Ord. Map. now entirely cut down; but looks promising collecting ground, as the oaks have sprouted to about 5 to 6 feet in height & the fields are surrounded by good old hedge.
