2nd July 1937. Warm, but a constant drip & several showers made collecting impossible. Wind very strong, SW-S over plain, E. in Dublin.

Drove Prof Oswald (of Swedish Agricultural College) and Miss Fernside (Cambridge) to Bog of Allen beyond [[underlined]] Prosperous, [[/underlined]] on Edenderry road, Co. DK., to investigate growth of bog & peat formation.

Swept a few insects in shelter of plantation S. of road before a heavy shower made further collecting possible & wind had blown all insects off trees. Left Dublin 12.30 noon & returned via Naas, where had tea, arriving Dublin at 6.0 PM.

4th July 1937. A beautiful day after 11 AM., but very windy (NW.) with rising glass after a very cold & wet Sat. the day before. Insects rare in morning, even in shelter, but abundant in sheltered part of woods at E. end of deerpark in afternoon. Drove with C.W. Allen, to Athy & turned down Barrow Valley; collected below Ardrigh mill in sandpit, field & marsh (= 1), then on to Tankardtown Bridge (lunch) & collected a few insects in marsh by river at N.W. corner of bridge (= 2) (i.e. Queen's Co.) but these insects not separated from those taken at 1 & I do not think of importance. Then on to Kilkea Deerpark (=3), where collected for rest of day & home via Castledermot. 10 AM. till 7.10 P.M. All in Co. KD. except at "2".

Sandpit, fields & marsh below Ardrigh, Co. CW. & marsh at NW. end of Tankardstown Bridge, Co. QC. 11.30 till 2.0 P.M.
Labelled Athy dt. CW. QC. AWS. 4.7.37. Unfortunately "CW" should have been "KD" as I did not collect in Carlow on this date at all. AWS. 27.1.38.
Most insects sent to B.M.
