24th Oct. 1937. A fine morning, rain again at night & all next day. Considerable hot sun, but keen S.W. wind.

In forenoon drove to N. entrance lodge to Johnstown House, S.W. of Rathcoole, on DU-KD boundary, where left car & spent 1 1/2 hours investigating the old roads in "Windmill Hill", 2 miles SW. of Rathcoole; saw a Wall Butterfly, very tattered, in land leading N. from lodge gates both going up & coming back to car, on plant of Scabiosa arvensis in full flower; many wasps, probably all vulgaris, including 1 very black [[male symbol]], seen, mostly on Ivy blossom; saw [[female symbol]] Bombus lucorum sunning herself, which flew away strongly when disturbed, saw one [[female symbol]] Bombus agrorum searing N. side of a mossy bank in "Raspberry Lane," leading from Windmill E. towards Redgap; also saw or heard several other Bombi probably the latter species. In "Raspberry Lane" took 1 [[female symbol]] Stenomacrus ventralis & 1 very small, [[strikethrough]] very [[/strikethrough]] black, [[female symbol]] Aspilota = A. immitator miki ? 1 [[female symbol]] with 14-seg. antennae.

27th Oct. 1937. A perfect afternoon, but cool with N. breeze, after a clear frosty night, the first real frost of the season, & much rain during previous couple of days. Insects very plentiful, however, under trees, where it was dry enough to sweep & Stenomacrus ventralis so common as to be a nuisance.

Glenasmole, Co. DU., 2.30 till 4.30 P.M.

All insects swept above Moore's house & between that & upper dam, mostly between W. path & boundary fence.
