Strong W.-SW wind to gale, with two heavy showers which spoiled collecting. Driven by Mr & Mrs. Agnew of Belfast via Ballintoy & Ballycastle to Murlough Bay. Spent a few minutes at head of wood there sweeping under trees & took a few icks & one Aspilota. No doubt this would well repay working. [8 labelled 10/1/40! Cryptid [[male symbol]] = Phygadeum [[female symbol]] = Leptocryptus 1 [[male symbol]] " [[ditto for Leptocryptus]] 1 [[female symbol]]. "Nemeritis" transfuga ? 1 [[male symbol]] = Phaedroctonus t. Aspilota cf. curticauda 1 [[female symbol]], rather small & slender & terebra rather long. 258./ 8th June 1938. A beautiful day spoiled by frequent & terrific showers of rain & hail. In morning, which promised very fine, walked by Bushfoot sandhills to lane past Ballytaylor Huse ( in. Ord. Map.) to Dundarase & Bushmills, where arrived scarcely a minute before the first shower. During interval between first & second shower tried a little sweeping in most sheltered spots under trees: then second shower, with heavy hail, ended collecting. During second shower I saw what looked like a large Alysiid alight in front of me & just got my net out in time to catch it as it departed. This proved to be a fine [[male symbol]] Dacnusa petiolaris Nees, the first ex. I have taken of this species & so far as I know only the second taken in Ireland - the first being in coll. of late Rev. W.F. Johnson in Nat. Mus., Dublin, where I discovered it only a few months ago. Haliday's specimens were sent him from England by Curtis & Walker. Between 2nd & 3rd shower we reached tramway bridge & [[?lower]] between 3rd & 4th. In afternoon showers were too frequent to allow anything to dry & the only collecting
