261./ 9th June 1938. Another beautiful day spoiled by heavy & frequent showers from SW-W, though in afternoon a cool breeze blew in from the sea (N.W.). Spent both morning & afternoon in lane at "Ballytaylor H.", N. of Bushmills, as on 8th, but almost impossible to sweep owing to wet vegetation, which never got a chance of drying. In morning took 1 [[male symbol]] & 1 [[female symbol]] Dacusa petiolatus during rain, the former within 4 feet of that taken on 8th, the latter at field end of plantation & also in the lane. All these were taken where Ranunculus repens was the dominant plant, but many grasses & other plants also grew there. In afternoon getting desperate at approach of "umpteenth" shower I went into the plantation W of lane & did some bold sweeping till the net was sodden: in doing so I nearly swept a [[female symbol]] Pheasant which flew off her nest containing about a dozen eggs.
