Aphaereta tenuicornis  1♂ at 1.
Phaenocarpa tabida  1♀ at 1.
Orthostigma basirufa at 1,  1♂ & 1♀ at 1, with 23 & 19 seg. ant. resp.
Aspilota mammilata m.?  A large ♂, 24-seg. ant.  Freshly enclosed & therefore wings crumpled:  at 1.
A. sylvatica (small) or large rufata:  1♀ at 1:  cf pair taken on 25/8/38.  19-seg. ant.
A. sp.? ♂ of last sp. at 1, 22-seg. ant.
A. curticauda = sciurella m. (a name which does not fit well) miki 2♀♀ at 1, with 21-seg. ant., red petiole, &c.
Dacnusa merella?  1♂ at 2, just emerged
D. diremta  1 fine ♂ at 2.
D. cyclops  1♂ at 1
D. confinis??  ♂? at 1:  immature ♂?, with pale stigma.
D. maculipes  at 1

4th Sept. 1938.

A fine day, W. breeze, hardly any sun, mild:  insects abundant in woods.

Oak wood between Clara bridge & the Cronyburn:  left car at top of wood.
1 = oakwood above road, where swept for half an hour before lunch  12.30 till 1.0 P.M.
2 = wood between road & river.  Swept mostly on wet slope above river flat just E. of Osmunda glade & thence on flat to mouth of Cronyburn.  1.30 - 4.15 PM.

Kept only 10 specimens from "1" & these so labelled & 66 from "2" but these merely labelled "Clara".  A.W.S. 10/11/40.

Bombus lucorum  a few only on heather by road
B. agrorum  a few only on heather by road
B. jonellus  very fresh ♂♂ common on heather by road
Colletes succinctus 1 (♀ or ♂?) seen on heather by road
Vespa vulgaris [[juvenile symbol, juvenile symbol]] seen.

Emphytus braccatus  2♂♂, one at 1, & one 100 yards below road on way to 2:  the 2nd & 3rd Irish specimens.  Both taken on oaks.
Athalia spp. seen frequently in marshy spots.
