On duty in museum in aft.!

22nd Sept. 1938.
A poor afternoon, with gale from SE & SW & consequent jam & drizzle, after rain in morning: very mild.
Collecting impossible in open owing to wind & very difficult in shelter owing to wet.
Drove again to Glending & tried marsh but hardly any insects out, as too wind-swept, & a large herd of cattle parked in it:  then tried wood on Wicklow side & found it full of hymenoptera but mainly common species.

Only 5 hymenoptera taken here: none kept.

Glypta elongata  1 very black [[male symbol]].
Zootrophus "rufiventris"  1 [[female symbol]].
Hemiteles sp.  1 [[male symbol]].
Pentapleura pumilio  1 [[female symbol]].
Dacnusa affinis  1 [[female symbol]], with 24-seg. antennae.

All swept under trees and off bushes of ash or birch;  or (3) along boundary wall at N. end of wood.
