13th May 1939.  Swifts arrived in evening at 14 Clareville Rd., DU.  An unprecedently late date!  Several reports from various suburbs a few days earlier, but our local birds did not come till this evening, which was warm & drizzly, after a glorious sunny day.

16th May 1939.  7PM. Garden, 14 Clareville Rd. DU.
Ptermidea rifesii  1♀ on Red Currant bush
Pimpla flavicoxis  1♂  Angitia?  1♂.
Promethes laticarpus  1♂, curiously colored?

17th May 1939.  A day of strong cold NE wind with much hot sun in afternoon, after a wet night & cold dull forenoon.
In afternoon rode to Glenasmole & collected in three places;  but insects shy & no wonder.
Glenasmole, DU.  3.30 till 6.30 P.M.
1= W. side of lower reservoir or under trees between Moore's house & footbridge.
2 = Willow glade opposite Moores & above upper end of lower reservoir, as usual
3 = under trees, &c. at both sides of ford, especially between river & Moore's.
[6 from 1, 18 from 2 & 2 from 3, + 3 sawflies probably from 2, kept]
Bombus agrorum  1♀ & B. lucorum  several ♀♀ only seen.
Andrena albicans  1 or 2 ♂♂ only at 2.
Vespa vulgaris  1♀ seen, at 2.
Antaeon lucidus?  1♀:  1st Dryinid of year! at 2 on birch
Rhogogaster aucuperiae } ? all at 2
Dolerus nigratus  1♂ } ? all at 2
D. liogaster  1 very nice ♀ } ? all at 2
Euura  1♀ at 2.
