1st June 1939.

Another cloudless day, very hot, with cool breeze off coast.

Driven by A.H. Davison, via Ballymena, to Skerrywherry & Agnew's Hill, thence over the new road across the Star Bog to Glenarm & home to Ballycastle by Cushendall & Glendun. The object of trip was to look at the plants of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi on Skerrywherry & Agnew's Hill. That on Skerrywherry is certainly gone now, though still there in 1920, & the ledge is occupied by Erica and Calluna. See Photos. →

That was Agnew's Hill may still be there but the vegetation of the cliff seemed sadly diminished (? owing to sheep grazing) & the path up to the ledge had been carried away. From below it was quite impossible to be sure if the plant survived or not, though Vaccinium Vitis-Idaea could be seen growing there, still abundantly. The plant grew on S. side of a gully about the middle of the cliff, between the two [[image]] plantations of conifers below same, & is marked by an abundant growth of Populus tremula.
