In afternoon worked Oak-Birch wood 1 mile N. of Aviemore (= 3) & Pine & Birch woods between No.1 & hotel golf-links (= 4).

Bombus lucorum & muscorum  ♀♀ seen: rare.
Crabro clavipes  1 swept at 3.
Myrmica lobicornis:  a nest at large boulder at 3.
M. ruginodis  Many carrying larvae 2ft. from last.
Formica fusca  A few ☿☿ beside last.
F. rufa abundant & many nests seen, some of which appeared to have been dug for purpae;  some ☿☿ at M. lobicornis nest, but ? why.
