Took a very small ☿ of Bombus hortorum ? near Bay View.
At Annat gate of estate saw a ☿ Bombus pratorum, with very dark tail (seemed only red at extreme open!), several times during day and visiting flower of Scrophularia at noon, Scrophularia and Epilobium angustifolium (Rose Bay) at 12:30 and bramble flower at 6:30 PM.
Also saw Bombus lucorum and B. muscorum at same place on bramble flower, ♀♀ and ☿☿. On return from shore, captured in wood near entrance gate a ♀ of the Deer Bot-fly (Cephanomyia auribarbis Mg.) just freshly colored and clinging to a grass stem, which on being taken with the Juniper ejected a quantity of pinkish fluid. This fly is really very like a Bombus in superficial appearance.
