23rd August 1939. 

A dull hot afternoon, no sun, misty, but no rain: very soft & warm.  E. wind in Dublin but not a breath in the plain after 4.30 P.M. 

Drove to railway & canal (branch lines) S. of Sallins, then on to R. Liffey, near Osberstown Ho., both KD., then on to Grand Canal just E. of Landensdown Ho. & lack, where had tea at 5.30.  Left there at 7.0 & drove to Athgarrett Ho., near Rathmore to meet George.  Left there at 9 P.M. & home on stroke of 10 P.M.
