of an arctic flora including Salix herbacea, Betula nana, Arenaria ciliata & Armeria (See Pink), while the overlying peat contains a more or less modern flora. It is hoped to investigate the site during the coming June.

On outward journey we went via Drogheda, Ardee, Carrickmacross, Shercock, & Cootehill I returned via Stradone, Virginia, Kells & Navan, seeing much nice country, but everything very backward compared to Dublin. Mitchell reported Willow Warbler where we had lunch (near Cootehill) & we saw Swallows & Sand Martins at Navan by the Boyne, as well as Chiff-chaffs in normal places. Did not see any insects all day, as wind & showers kept them safely hidden. Willows everywhere just about at their best & many nice looking sawfly-marshes passed during the day, but very little native timber or scrub seen.

On other pages, I think he has noted Chiffchaffs as one word - here it looks like he hyphenated it.
