32. Thursday 2nd May 1940. A fine day after a misty morning, with E. breeze & much sun in afternoon. Drove to glen W. of Deputies Pass, Co. WI, arriving at 1 P.M. After lunch collected in valley bottom, where some nice marshy ground amongst Alder & Willows, for a couple of hours; then back to Deputy's Pass where collected for 1 1/2 hours. Called on H.B. Preston at Greystones on way home. Insects not very plentiful. 1 = Glen W. of Deputy's Pass. 2 till 4 P.M. 2 = Deputy's Pass : E. side, mainly in large oak-wood N. of tributary stream. 5 till 6 P.M. All Co. WI. Mostly put into store! 19 from 1 mtd. & 31 from 2, these labelled 4/10/42! AWS. Bombus lucorum, agrorum, hortorum (1) & lapidarius ♀︎♀︎ seen. Psithyrus distinctus ♀︎♀︎. Andrena albicans ♂︎♂︎ abundant at 1. A. praecox ♀︎ in Salix at 1. Halictus rubicundus ♀︎ at 1. Salius fuscus at 2, ♀︎. Nomada marshamella ♂︎♂︎ seen at 1 33. 2.5.40 cont. Deputy's Pass, &c., WI. cont. Vespa vulgaris, sylvestris (1 at 2) & rufa ♀︎♀︎ seen. Anteon 1♂︎ at 2 (1st seen 1940). Ichneumon extensorius & militaris? ♀︎, black legs, at 1. Dicaelotus?? pumilus?? 1♀︎ at 1, red var. or another sp. Phaeogenes fulvitarsis? 1♀︎ at 2 Ph. 1♀︎ at 2. Cryptids. About a dozen : only 1♂︎ kept, from 1 = Pimpla turionellae group 1♂︎ (all seen) at 1. Stenomacrus ventralis ♀︎♀︎ & ♂︎♂︎ at 2, none kept St. cubiceps? [2♂︎♂︎ ?] & 2♀︎♀︎ at 2. St. ridibundus? 1♂︎ at 2 Orthocentrus repentinus ? 1♂︎ at 1, 28 seg. ant. O. asper? 1♂︎ at 2, 23-seg ant.
