25th Aug. 1940 
A rather nice day, spoiled by cold wet mist while we were on the mountain. 

Drove to Glen of Imaal with Neal (?) Rankin of Belfast, arriving at Coan about 11:30, & walked up to North Prison for lunch.  After lunch had just commenced to sweep floor of the Prison for Homocidus when the mist descended & wet everything.  Then walked up to head of corry, across plateau to edge of South Prison & so up to summit of Slieve-na-quilla, where collected a few beetles & one spider under stones round the cairn.  Mist rising at short intervals allowed partial views around, but never all clear.  Then back to car & after tea swept round fields & yard of ruined farm at Coan, where Ichs & Proctos in great abundance but little variety.  On way up (12 noon) noted dozens of Swallows playing about on ridge behind Camara Hill & guessed that strong S.W. wind was carrying insects over the ridge from lower ground, which theory was I think confirmed by finding an adult Pentatoma rufipes on heathery slope at about 2,500 feet on return journey & possibly by taking
