20th July, 1941. 

A dull day, but no rain where we were though shower seen about, with rather strong SW-W wind:  insects shy.

Rode to Rye Water & Royal Canal at Leixlip station, Co KD., where arrived at noon.  Swept slope from road to Rye Water (NW side of canal) = 1;  after lunch rode on 1/2 mile & collected along edge of canal & in plantation between canal & ponds of Collinstown House - Mr Mitchell's stud! (=2 & 3 respectively) as on 9.7.1944.

Halictus albipes or calceatus  1♂︎ swept at 2.
Crabro clavipes.  1 swept at 3, as on 9th July
Tenthredo "sulphuripes"  ♀︎♀︎, the only sawfly seen.
Amblyteles armatorius?  (1♂︎ at 2: not kept.
