23rd May 1942.

A day of gale from SW. with heavy rain in morning & showers with sunny intervals in afternoon: gale continued at night with wind shifting to W.N.W.: cooler. Old Head, Co. WM.

Did not go out in morning, but had two sessions in afternoon, before & after afternoon tea, where collected by sweeping, mainly birch & willow, in shelter along E. margin of wood from hotel to quay & along top edge of fields, but frequent skiffs of rain kept vegetation wet & collecting difficult, also most things shaken off trees & bushes by wind.

[20 insects mounted & these labelled 22/2/44! A.W.S.]
