28th June 1942.

After a small depression, with windy night, but no rain in Dublin, a fine day with NNW breeze & after 12-noon entirely blazing sun, very hot. Left home, alone, at 10.30 AM. & rode to Blessington, arriving at the new bridge at 12.35; saw pools on road first at foot of Crooksling hill & after that at intervals to Blessington.

Swept swampy field surrounded by trees (as on various occasions previously: ), between road from Blessington to Ballyward & the new reservoir, for a couple of hours, where grass very wet in places, very hot & very fly-y; then rode on to old sandpit N. of Ballyward Bridge where sat in breeze for half-an-hour & looked for aculeates. Saw practically none of latter - 2 or 3 ♀︎ Halictus, some small Crabros (? C. varius or palmipes & several ♂︎♂︎ & 1♀︎ Pompilus nigerrimus: not a Bumble seen all day. Then rode home via Kilbridge R.C.C. & Brittas; arriving home about 5 o'clock.

Hymenoptera very numerous at Blessington & one large sucker-full brought home.

Meadow Brown & Ringlet Butterflies common at Blessington.
