26th July 1942.

A nice morning after a day of heavy showers & strong W. wind, turning dull at 9 A.M. & gradually coming on to drizzle about 1 P.M. & continuing till night, wind in Dublin changing from SW to SE at same time as drizzle commenced.

Left home about 10.30 & rode to Royal Canal at Leixlip station, KD., on arriving at which found I had left rucksack in kitchen at home with 2 flasks of tea & all collecting apparatus except collecting (ether) bottle. Therefore could not sweep or collect, so went along canal to plantation W. of Louisa Bridge & had lunch (carried by Daisy!) by which time drizzle had come on. Collected beetles for E.O'M. at large fungi growing out of root of poplar (+/- dead) & took one Procto. with fingers on poplar leaf in plantation & then rode home, arriving 3.30 just before heavy rain started.
