10th Oct. 1943.

A poor day, mild, with SE-SW jam over hills & drizzle in afternoon, after a very fine day on Sat. (9th), but much broken weather during previous week.

Rode to Louisa Bridge, Royal Canal, W. of Leixlip, where arrived at 11:30; swept W. side of turnip field between canal & Maynooth road, W. of bridge, (= 1) as before, till 1 P.M., when first skiff of rain fell & we had lunch; after lunch went further along canal and swept plantation between tow-path & Mr. Mitchell's field, as often before (= 2). Skiffs of rain about 3 P.M. becoming heavier, stopped all collecting, so had tea & rode home, escaping rain, but on wet roads. Arrived home 5:45.
