7th - 21st Nov. 1943.

Weather continued very mild, mostly damp, with some lovely sunny days, till 12th when temperature fell & on this or previous day I saw at 5 P.M. a great expanse of "Mother-of-pearl" clouds to the S.W. & signs of cold windy weather. On 13th we had heavy sleat showers in aft. which covered the hills with snow & hail on 14th, with very heavy frost & clear skies on night of 14th-15th; slight frost again on following two nights & then temperature gradually rose so that 20th was quite mild again.

Common Gulls appeared in Leinster Lawn for first time this winter on 15th & seen every day of following week, but none yet seen on canal at Portobello, where I usually see them in November: all seen so far have been adults.
