December 1943. 

Mostly wet, but some fine days here & there & one or two nights frost especially 1 night's hard frost during the week before Xmas.  Barometer very high & steady (ca. 30.5!) all Xmas week & weather mild but mainly cloudy, with some skiffs of rain.  Did not collect all month! 

Daisy reported Snowdrops out at Dartry Rd. on 22nd but our own did not appear above ground till the new year.

A ♀︎ brachypterous hymenopteron which proved to be an Orgilus (? Orgilus parvipenis Thoms.) = Ballinacourty. (2) 28.9.43.

On way back to hotel between 5 & 5.30 P.M. swept plantation between avenue N. of stables & field as on 26.9.43 (3).

Cryptinids 18 including Atractodes 2 spp.:  9 specimens mtd.
Leptocryptus sp.  4♂︎♂︎, 3♀︎♀︎, red & black abd.  All mounted  1♂︎, 2♀︎♀︎ larger & all with 25-seg. antennae;  3♂︎♂︎, 1♀︎ much smaller & with 24, 24, 23 & 23 (♀︎)-seg. antennae;  yet all look the same species.
H. apertus?  2♂︎♂︎ (one mtd., ant. 21).
Atractodes sp.  ♀︎, ant. 20.
