Ichneumonidae bred from or thought to be attacking larvae & pupae of the Red Admiral Butterfly (V. atalanta) at Roche's Hotel, Glengarriff, Co. W. Cork:  these were brought me in Dec. 1943 by J.E. Flynn.

1.  A series of ♂︎, 11♀︎♀︎ bred from chrysalises of atalanta & dated 29.7.1943.  These are all I believe referable to Hemiteles melanarius Grav.

2.  1♀︎ Hemiteles melanarius, 1♀︎ Pimpla instigator & 1♀︎ Chalcid seen attacking pupae (fresh & soft!) of atalanta on 10.7.1943.

3.  1♂︎, 2♀︎♀︎ bred from pupae of atalanta on 24.7.1943 - all Pimpla instigator!

4.  4♀︎♀︎ Phobocampa confusa & 1♀︎ Gelis zonatus Forst. attending & suspected of attacking larvae of atalanta (date not noted! probably May or June 1943.

5.  A series of hyperparasites bred from the characteristic cocoons of Photocampa

(presumably P. confusa Thoms.!):  these consist of Chalcids, Gelis cf. instabilis ♀︎ & Leptocryptus & were bred from V. urticae & V. io & not from atalanta.


15.9.43:  brought into museum when I was on holidays by Mrs. Beere & bred from Aphides on Sweet Pea from her Dublin garden:-

& Lygocerus?  ♂︎.
