2.2 44, cont.

In back & front garden flowers on 3 additional clumps of Sax. oppositifolia (two of large Snowdon form - east side back garden & front garden - & on the Binevenagh plant in front garden.  Alder in back garden with ♂︎ catkins full out.  A white Jonquil in flower in front garden & tips of Chionodoxa just showing.

D. Meikle (of T.C.D. & N'ards, Co. Down) reported first flowers out on Almonds in College Park, but no flowers out yet on those in Earlsfort Terrace, though buds pink.

In afternoon rode to Phoenix Park & to W. end of same & home via Chapelizod but saw nothing of interest.

Fergus O'Rourke reported seeing a female Bombus lucorum close to Glencullen village Co. Dublin on Sunday 30th January.

Two white crocus flowers appeared amongst the yellow ones on path to front gate.

Purple crocus by path to front gate in flower.  This day cold with strong N.-NW. wind.

4.2 44, cont.
1st flower on Almond tree in Kenilworth Square.

5.2.44. 
1st flower on Almond in Earlsfort Terrace (U.C.D.). 
This day very cold & dry with gentle E. breeze, mainly dull, but all sunny for a couple of hours in early aft.

6.2.44. 
Strong SW. wind, much sun, cool.  In afternoon walked from Rathfarnham via Templeogue Bridge & Willington Ho. back to Kimmage Rd. bus.  Much Celandine now out at Willington Ho.  One plant of Anthriscus sylvestris in full flower on sunny side of Butterfield Lane & in shelter of hedge: no other plant seen even in bud!

7.2.44. 
Forstythia in flower at U.C.D. in Earlsfort Terrace & probably out a day or two.  Leaf on plant of Anemone apennina in front garden on 6.2.44 & probably up a day or so earlier & not seen.

8.2.44. 
Queen Wasp (V. vulgaris) picked up in yard of Museum (dead & tramped on!), but probably out of boiler house or adjacent building.

10.2.44. 
White Violet out in back garden.  [Salix cinerea Flowering Currant in back garden, White Hyacinthes & Chionodoxa almost out in front garden]
