25th April 1944.

A fine day with much hot sun & nearly cloudless sky: wind E. along coast - but W.-NW. inland, yet no jam formed.

At 2 P.M., during hot sun-burst, ♂︎♂︎ of Sigalphus dancing round White Currant bush in back garden & one caught by hand appeared to be S. pallipes, but subsequently lost. By the time I got a sucker the sun was obscured, a cold wind blew strongly, & all had disappeared. At 5.30 p.m. there was no sign of any in garden.

26th April 1944.

Entirely cloudless, with intense sun after heavy dew (almost frost at night); wind at Dollymount strong & E., wind at Clareville Rd., less strong & NW., but no jam.

Went by bus to Dollymount & arrived at St. Anne's about 10.30 & stayed till nearly 5 P.M. Swept in 4 areas as follows:

1 = along the Chestnut Walk, in fields E. of same & around lake.
2 = up glen & around pleasure grounds between that & the swamp & along sides of main avenue, &c.
3 = in swamp above glen.
4 = along Chestnut Walk, &c., same as station 1 but after 4 p.m. & very little out.
