4th June 1944.
A wild day with heavy showers, at intervals. Did not collect any insects, but in afternoon walked by road to Lisvaranane & back through Ballinacourty estate & collected about a dozen species of sedges for Mr. Nelman of Kew, although these not very mature.

5th June 1944.
Still very wild with rising glass & NW. wind, some slight skiffs of rain, but never put on cape all day. Very wild & cold in exposed parts of hills! Left hotel at 11 AM. & rode across valley, then walked up W. side of Glancushnabinnia & cut across below moraine bounding L. Diheen to coomb in which lies L. Borheen & up track on to ridge above same, then east along top of cliffs & round spur & so to L. Muskry, where had lunch about 1.30. Spent rest of day (till 6 P.M.) examining L. Muskry & smaller (upper) tarn for shells &c. and worked lower & middle ranges of

cliffs W. of L. Muskry & home by head of valley below L. Borheen & so to Glancushnabinnia & more or less same route back to bikes.

Reached hotel at 8.45.

On outward journey crossed some wet flattish ground at head of Glancushnabinnia, ca. 800-900 ft & saw Drosera rotundifolia, Narthecium, Myosotis repens & in place for the first time came on Viola palustris in Galtees. In stream-bed coming down from N. face of Galtybeg saw much Epilobium nummularifolium just coming into flower & growing amongst a purely native flora including Sax. stellaris. Also in one stream-bed saw plenty of Sax. hy hypnoides. On way across coomb above L. Borheen noted Carex goodenowii & Trifolium repens & other lowland plants growing on the path at ca. 1900 to 2000 ft. The following plants seen on W. side of L. Muskry & on lowest & middle range of cliffs above same (i.e. W. side of coomb!) alt. from lake level (1614 ft. Ord. Map = 1,500 ft. fide Hart.) to ca. 2,000 on middle range of cliffs
