Gammarus sp. very abundant in both tarns!


6th June 1944. 

A dull day, with strong, cold, N.W. wind & merely odd momentary gleams of sun, but no rain. 

In forenoon walked along Tipperary road & then into Ballinacourty Woods & back to hotel through fields between woods & road, where discovered in upper fields a series of springs & swamps with some nice plants including Bog Thistle (C. pratensis) Smaller Butterfly Orchid (H. bifolia), Orchis majalis = the "latifolia" of the older botanists (a form with unspotted leaves.  Swept in three

2 = Ballinacourty woods just above where the old & new roads to Tipperary part.

3 = East of woods above fields & nearby spots in fields below wood & between wood & road.
