8th June 1944. 

A dull, mild, day with almost constant drizzle in hills & in valley in afternoon & rain in evening.  Glass down all day.  Did not go out till nearly 6 P.M. & set insects all day.  At 6 P.M. walked up Tipperary road & tried sweeping ditch on sheltered side, but rain coming on had to give up.  Later in spite of wet tried sweeping Eleocharis, &c., at E. end of eastern pond in Ballinacourty woods as on 28/5/44, station 2.

9th June 1944.

A fine, dry, day, but mainly dull & with chilly NW wind, strong at times:  considerable sun in late aft. & evening.

Did not go out till after lunch, 3 P.M.;  then went into Ballinacourty estate & swept in five areas, as follows:-
1 = edges of both ponds in woods behind Castlereagh Ho.
2 = swamp W. of ponds where much Equisetum sylvaticum.
3 = edges of cornfields & weeds where last years thrashing to corn was done, E. of Ballinacourty Ho.
4 = edge of pond S. of Ballinacourty H., in old pleasure grounds!
5 = hollow (under alders) & around pond 1/4 mile E of Ballinacourty Ho. & where cattle drink.
