10th June 1944.

A fine morning after almost a frost the night before, but too fine & with falling glass, which had not recovered from previous depressions, it was obvious that a change would not be far away, but as this was our last day, we decided to do a big day in the mountains at all costs. Leaving hotel just after 11 AM, we rode across valley & walked up Glancushnabinnia & then tackled the big stream gully on N. face of Galtymore then along cliffs into L. Curra coomb where had lunch; after lunch carried on at about 1950-2000 ft. level & examined the E. end of the middle range of cliffs S. of lake, then up to top range of cliffs, at ca. 2,500 ft. & did the E. end of this range from just W. of the great gully with huge overhaning rock near top (on E. side) & finally came out on ridge just W. of the cone of Galtymore: time 4.40. Next set off along boundary wall between S. Tipperary & Limerick & walked W & SW. till we reached summit of Lyracappul, 2712 ft.

& nearly a mile inside the Limerick boundary. Had afternoon tea about 6 P.M. just below & W. of summit & after tea worked all along escarpment from Lyracappul to the the W. apex of cliffs below Corrignabinnia & then straight down to valley NE. of same to see Meconopsis in flower & so home.

Reached hotel about 9.40 P.M. Mist came down in hills about 5 P.M. & by 6.30 it had started to drizzle, with wind now SE (instead of N.W. as in morning!); the drizzle gradually increasing to a steady drip as we left Corrignabinnia (about 7.30 P.M.) & continued till we got home. Collected insects in two places only during day:- (1) on rushy plateau at about 2,000 ft. overlooking SE corner of L. Curra & for a couple of hundred feet up slope S. of this plateau; & (2) along ridges of Lyracappul on both sides of actual summit for 1/4 mile at an alt. not less than 2,650 & including summit, 2712.

Spent the rest of the day looking for plants & the following noted:-
