11th June 1944.

A fine breezy day, with much hot sun & very strong W. wind, making collecting almost impossible except in a few places, & in shelter very wet after rain in evening & night before.

In "forenoon" spent an "hour" (12.30 till 2 PM.) sweeping round the two ponds in Ballinacourty woods behind Castlereagh Lo. ruins, as before = 1.

In afternoon swept a little along Aherlow River below the church & then went up into woods through fields E. of Castlereagh Lodge ruins; where in top field examined several nice spring-swamps & saw much Bog Thistle, Pedicularis palustris & sylvatica for comparison & plenty of Pinguicula lusitanica in full flower; the last only recorded by Hart from one spot in Glancushnabinnia at ca. 900 ft. Here also we saw Drosera rotundifolia, Habenaria bifolia, Orchis cf. majalis with unspotted leaves (now nearly over!) & lots of Orchis ericetorum, which is replaced in the woods, almost entirely, by what we once called the "true [[strikethrough]] maculata [[/strikethrough]] latifolia", i.e. the usually taller plant with labium of flower more like fuchsii [[image]] (= 2.)

First Cleggs of season seen at ponds!
