18th June 1944. 

A dull day (no sun till after 8.30 PM, when sky cleared!) with scarcely a breath of wind:  in morning a slight W-NW breeze, in afternoon an easterly breath & cooler;  at mid-day dark jams formed over Lucan area but no rain fall.

Left home at 10.10 AM. & rode to Louisa Bridge, Royal Canal, beyond Leixlip, Co. KD., & went straight on to lock 3/4 miles W. of bridge & worked back to plantation 1/2 mile W. of bridge.  Collected in the following areas & left for home at 5.40 & home at 7 PM.

1 = sideS of canal & tow path between lock & plantation (1/2-mile W. of Louisa Bridge), Co. KD. 
2 = Walled-in plantation, as often before.
3 = Sides of canal & tow path just E. of plantation.
4 = W. side of field (in wheat this year) between canal & Maynooth Rd. 1/4 mile W. of Louisa Bridge.

Saw during day along canal:-
Bombus sylvarum (1), B. distinguendus (1), B. lucorum, B. agrorum, B. derhamellus (1) ♀︎♀︎.

[34 (at least) mounted from 1 & these labelled 11.1.1947.  Like many Aphidiids in this store box, most of this lot had their antennae mutilated by Psocids (?) during the interval between 1944 & 1946!  A.W.S. 11.1.1947.]
