9th July 1944. George's 25th birthday! He is now a Pilot Officer (on ground staff) of R.A.F. & somewhere in England!!

A wretched day after a fine Saturday; heavy rain just after dawn & falling barometer; the morning showery, with fine intervals & high W. wind, but not too bad & so after lunch I rode (alone) to The Furry Glen, Phoenix Park, arriving about 2.30 & got in half-an-hour's sweeping before the storm broke & drenching rain came on; nipped home during a dry interval & was rewarded by for my nippiness, as rest of afternoon continuously wet & wild.
